Units 1, 2, and 3 Docket Nos. STN 50-528, 50-529, and 50-530 License Nos. NPF 41, NPF 51, and NPF 74 APS Response to NRC Follow-up Letter on Technical Issues for Resolution Regarding Licensee Communication Submittals Associated with Near-Term Task Force Recommendation 9.3 On March 12, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a letter entitled, Request for Information Pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 50.54(f)
Regarding Recommendations 2.1, 2.3, and 9.3, of the Near-Term Task Force Review of Insights from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Accident to Arizona Public Service Company (APS). In enclosure 5 of that letter, the NRC requested that licensees provide an assessment of current communications systems and equipment.
In Reference 1, APS committed to provide an assessment of the current Emergency Preparedness (EP) communications systems used during an emergency event and an implementation schedule of the required actions resulting from this assessment.
On October 31, 2012, APS provided the requested EP communications assessment (Reference 2). After reviewing the industry's responses, the NRC issued a letter on January 23, 2013 (Reference 3), that identified eight generic technical issues needing resolution to determine APS's communications capability during a large scale natural event and loss of all A member of the STARS (Strategic Teaming and Resource Sharing) Alliance Callaway
