SUBJECT:
FORT CALHOUN STATION - NOTIFICATION OF INSPECTION
(NRC INSPECTION REPORT 05000285/2013008) AND REQUEST FOR
INFORMATION
Dear Mr. Cortopassi:
On January 14, 2013, inspectors from the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) will perform
a safety culture inspection at Fort Calhoun Station, using applicable portions of NRC Inspection
Procedure 95003, Supplemental Inspection for Repetitive Degraded Cornerstone, Multiple
Degraded Cornerstones, Multiple Yellow Inputs or One Red Input, to evaluate the independent
safety culture assessment performed at Fort Calhoun. This inspection is a part of the MC 0350
oversight inspection activities. Experience has shown that this inspection is a resource
intensive inspection both for the NRC inspectors and your staff. The inspection will focus on
information gathered from site personnel about the safety culture primarily from focus groups.
The inspection team will also conduct interviews and review documents related to activities
identified in the safety culture assessment and other policies and procedures related to site
safety culture. In addition, a selection of observations of various meetings and activities will be
observed by the inspection team.
The inspection will include 2-weeks of onsite inspection by the team. The inspection will consist
of 3 safety culture assessors and 2 NRC inspectors. The current inspection schedule is as
follows:
Preparation Week: January 7, 2013
Onsite weeks:
January 14, 2013
February 11, 2013
In order to minimize the impact to your onsite resources and to ensure a productive inspection,
we have enclosed a request for documents and resources needed for this inspection.
The first group (Section A of the enclosure) identifies information to be provided prior to the
onsite portion of the inspection to support inspector preparation. The second group (Section B

of the enclosure) identifies information the inspectors will need upon arrival at the site. It is
important that all of these documents are up-to-date and complete in order to minimize the
number of additional documents requested during the preparation and/or onsite portions of the
inspection.
We have discussed the schedule for these inspection activities with your staff and understand
that our regulatory contact for this inspection will be Mr. Erick Matzke. If there are any
questions about this inspection or the material requested, please contact the lead inspector,
Greg Warnick, at (949) 492-2641 (Greg.Warnick@nrc.gov) or Kamishan Martin at (301) 415-
3469 (Kamishan.Martin@nrc.gov).
This letter does not contain new or amended information collection requirements subject to the
Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.). Existing information collection
requirements were approved by the Office of Management and Budget, control number 3150-
0018. The NRC may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a
request for information or an information collection requirement unless the requesting document
displays a currently valid Office of Management and Budget control number.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document
