The purpose of this letter is for the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to submit a response to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Request for Additional Information (RAI) dated July 2, 2010 (Reference 1). The additional information requested is in support of the NRC review of NPPD's 10 CFR 50.55a Request Numiber RI-36, Revision 0, submitted February 5, 2010 (Reference 2).
The response to the RAI is provided in the attachment to this letter.

NLS2010076 Attachment Attachment Response to Request for Additional Information Regarding 10 CFR 50.55a Request Number RI-36, Revision 0 Cooper Nuclear Station, Docket No. 50-298, DPR-46 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has reviewed the information provided by Nebraska Public Power District (the licensee)for Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) in its letter dated February 5, 2010, and determined that additional information is necessary to complete the review of Relief Request No. RI-36. Please provide a response that addresses the following question.
NRC Question No. 1 Describe the frequency with which the contact pyrometer will be used to measure the preheat and interpass temperature (e.g., right before welding and before the welding of each weld bead, etc.).
Nebraska Public Power District Response A contact pyrometer will be used to measure the preheat temperature prior to welding.
The interpass temperatures will be measured every three (3) to five (5) beads for the first three (3) layers and every six (6) to ten (10) beads for the remaining layers. This action will be implemented as part of implementing RI-36, Revision 0, which is a contingency 10 CFR 50.55a request for Cooper Nuclear Station Refueling Outage 26.
