These are Category 3 Meetings. The public is invited to participate in these meetings by providing comments and asking questions throughout the meetings.

PURPOSE:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received a license renewal application (LRA) from Arizona Public Service Company dated December 11, 2008, for the renewal of the operating license for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2, and 3. The purpose of these meetings is for the NRC staff to describe the license renewal process and to provide members of the public with the opportunity to provide comments regarding environmental issues the NRC should consider during its review of the LRA. PURPOSE (Contd):

These meetings are being conducted as part of the scoping process outlined in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51 (10 CFR 51) to support development of an environmental impact statement related to the LRA. See the enclosed Agenda and Federal Register notice (74 FR 24884). The LRA is available at http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications/palo

-verde.html and in the Agencywide Document and Management System (ADAMS) under accession numbers ML083510611, ML083510612, and ML083510615.

These meetings will be preceded by an informal open house, beginning one hour prior to each meeting. The open house will provide members of the public with an opportunity to talk informally with NRC staff.

Members of the public may register to present oral comments at the meetings by contacting Mrs. Lisa Regner, at 800-368-5642, ext. 1906, or by e-mail at Lisa.Regner@nrc.gov by June 18, 2009. Those who wish to make comments may also register within 15 minutes of the start of each meeting. Individual oral comments may be limited by the time available, depending on the number of persons who register.

ACCOMMODATIONS: If special equipment or accommodations are needed by persons wishing to attend or present information at the public meeting, the need should be brought to the attention of Mrs. Lisa Regner, at 800-368-5642, ext. 1906, or by e-mail at Lisa.Regner@nrc.gov by June 18, 2009, to provide the NRC staff adequate notice to determine whether the request can be accommodated.
