NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT 1 REVIEW AND APPROVAL SCHEDULE - FOURTH INTERVAL INSERVICE INSPECTION PLAN AND ASSOCIATED PROPOSED ALTERNATIVES AND RELIEF REQUESTS In a letter dated October 17, 2008 (Serial No. 08-0595), Dominion submitted the North Anna Power Station Unit 1 inservice inspection (lSI) program for the fourth inservice inspection (lSI) interval applicable to Class 1, 2, and 3, components and component supports. The lSI Plan described the programmatic aspects of lSI examinations of components and component supports.
Dominion requested review and approval of the associated relief requests by April 30, 2009 in order to implement the Plan at the start of the fourth lSI interval.
In a January 7, 2009 phone call, Dominion and the NRC discussed the need for each relief request.
It was determined that the majority of the relief requests were not required until October 2009.
Consequently, NRC review and approval of these requests could be deferred until October without effect on implementation of the fourth interval lSI program.
However, one relief request (NDE-004) is considered necessary for the start of the fourth interval to address any leak discovered in the Service Water System.
Therefore, Dominion continues to request approval of NDE-004 by April 30, 2009.
North Anna Unit 1 was not designed or licensed to standards that completely meet the detailed lSI examination and system pressure test requirements presently specified in the 2004 ASME Code.
Therefore, fourth interval program relief requests were submitted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a (a)(3)(i) and/or (ii) or 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(5)(iii) to request an alternative or relief from the specific code requirements.
The following summarizes the applicable paragraph of 10 CFR 50.55a for each requested relief/alternative:
