OF PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL SCOPING MEETINGS RELATED TO THE REVIEW OF THE VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONS (TAC NOS. MD5905 AND MD5906)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted environmental scoping meetings related to the review of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2 (VEGP),

license renewal applications submitted by Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc (SNOC).

Two public meetings were conducted on Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the Augusta Technical College Waynesboro Campus, 216 Highway 24 South, Augusta, Georgia 30830.

Approximately 50 people attended the meetings. The attendees included representatives of the NRC staff, NRC contractors from EarthTech, members of the public, representatives from SNOC, news media, and local government officials. Public comments and questions addressed a wide range of issues including license renewal process, environmental justice, water use issues, and alternatives to license renewal.

A combined listing of attendees for both public meetings is provided in Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the meeting handouts provided during the public meeting open house. The transcripts for the afternoon and evening meetings are publicly available at the NRC Public Document Room (PDR), located at One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland 20852, or from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).

ENCLOSURE 2 Welcome to the NRCs Open House Associated with the Environmental Review for the Proposed License Renewal at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2 This open house is intended to provide an opportunity for interested members of the public and staff from other Federal, State, and local agencies to interact with the NRC staff in an informal information exchange.

The NRC is gathering information necessary to prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) related to the proposed renewal of the operating licenses for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2. Please note that if you wish to provide formal comments regarding the scope of the environmental review for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2, they can be presented at either session of todays transcribed public meetings.

Alternatively, they can be provided in writing or electronically by October 24, 2007. Comments received after this date will be considered while developing the draft SEIS if it is practical to do so, but the NRC staff is able to assure consideration only for comments received on or before October 12, 2007. Written comments on the scope of the SEIS should be sent to:
