LICENSE RENEWAL SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR THE DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3, AND QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Mr. Skolds:
By letter dated January 3, 2003, the Exelon Generation Company submitted an application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of the operating licenses for the Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Units 2 and 3, and the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2, for an additional 20 years. The license renewal application (LRA) was submitted pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54. The NRC determined that the LRA was complete and acceptable for docketing on February 26, 2003. Since that time, the NRC staff has reviewed the LRA, issued requests for additional information (RAIs), reviewed the applicants responses to the staffs RAIs, developed an initial safety evaluation report (SER) with open and confirmatory items (dated February 12, 2004), and reviewed the applicants responses to the open and confirmatory items. On the basis of this review, the staff has developed the enclosed SER to document the findings associated with the staffs safety review of the Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Units 2 and 3, respectively, and the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2.
