Box 300 North Seabrook, Nil 03874 Atlantic (603) 474-9521 The Northeast Utilities System August 21, 2002 Docket No. 5 0-443 NYN-02083 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 Seabrook Station Clarification of Intention Regarding Conversion to Improved Standard Technical Specifications Reference (a): North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation Letter NYN-97012, dated February 7, 1997, "Response to the NRC's Request for Information Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f) Regarding Adequacy and Availability of Design Bases Information" North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation (North Atlantic) is submitting this letter to clarify our current intentions regarding conversion to the Improved Standard Technical Specifications. As identified in Reference (a), it was stated that North Atlantic was in the process of converting to the Improved Standard Technical Specifications with an expected completion in 1998.

The project was subsequently cancelled and there are no current plans or schedules to convert to the Improved Standard Technical Specifications.

It is our understanding that this is the current status of the project with the Technical Specification Branch.
