S Allen Hiser Bill Bateman; Stephen Sands 1/23/02 4:47PM Re: Question from D-B on "Flaw Evaluation Guidelines" In this bullet described, "adjacent base material" is the CRDM tube base metal. Flaws in the vessel head base material would be evaluated in accordance with the applicable ASME Code flaw standards.

- Bill, I received a question from Davis-Besse regarding the Guidelines for flaw evaluation. Their questions is below.
We are looking for clarification of a statement in the "Flaw Evaluation Guidelines" (ADAMS Accession ML013250451, Enclosure 2). Specifically, the 4th bullet at top of the 2nd page of Enclosure 2 states:
"Any flaw detected in the J-groove weld, its heat affected zone (or adjacent base material) must be repaired.
Our question is: Does "adjacent base material" mean the CRD tube, or both the CRD tube and the vessel head?
- Thanks, Stephen Andrea Lee; Anthony Mendiola
