PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - DRAFT SAFETY EVALUATION RE: CONVERSION TO IMPROVED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS (TAC NOS. MB0695 AND MB0696)
Dear Mr. Nazar:
Enclosed for your review is a draft safety evaluation (SE) for the conversion of the current Technical Specifications (CTSs) for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2, to Improved Technical Specifications (ITSs). The draft SE includes tables that list the changes to the CTS. As agreed to by your staff, please provide your comments on the draft SE by June 17, 2002, to support the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review schedule.
While some open items remain under NRC review, we are issuing the draft SE with place-holders for the incorporation of the NRC staffs assessment of those open items in an effort to meet the overall completion date of July 31, 2002.
The NRC staffs review is ongoing. The NRC staff should complete its review after receipt of Supplement 15 to your ITS application, which is expected by June 26, 2002. We understand that Supplement 15 will contain various clarifying items, including license conditions for implementing ITS and answers to some outstanding questions. We also understand that Supplement 15 will contain a complete set of final TS pages, Bases pages, and the SE Tables.
