ASSESSMENT FOLLOW-UP LETTER - BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT-UNITS 1 AND 2 - NRC INSPECTION REPORT 05000325/2012009 AND 05000324/2012009

Dear Mr. Annacone:

As a result of its continuous review of plant performance, which was completed on September 27, 2012, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) updated its assessment of Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2. The NRCs evaluation consisted of a review of inspection results. This letter informs you of the NRCs assessment of your facility, and supplements, but does not supersede, the mid-cycle letter issued on September 4, 2012.

On June 21, 2012, the NRC completed a supplemental inspection pursuant to Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection for One or Two White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area (Inspection Report 05000325/2012008 and 05000324/2012008). After reviewing Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2 performance in addressing the White finding associated with the degradation of the external flood barrier for the emergency diesel generator fuel oil tank rooms, the NRC concluded that your actions met the objectives of the Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection for One or Two White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area. Therefore, the White finding is considered closed. As a result, the NRC determined the performance at Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Units 1 and 2 to be in the Licensee Response Column of the Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix as of October 1, 2012.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).

ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rmadams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). Please contact me at 404-562-4603 with any questions you may have regarding this letter.

Sincerely,
