Dear Sir or Madam:
In Reference 1, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) requested relief from the requirements of the 1992 Edition and the 2001 Edition with the 2003 Addenda of ASME Section XI for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 (ANO-1). The request for alternative proposed a risk-informed (RI) selection and examination program as an alternative to a portion of the current inservice inspection (ISI) program based on ASME Code Case N-716, Alternative Piping Classification and Examination Requirements,Section XI, Division 1, April 19, 2006.
During the acceptance review of Reference 1, the NRC concluded that additional information was necessary to enable the staff to make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed request. The information that was requested was delineated in Reference 2. The NRC requested ANO-1 to supplement the application to address the information listed in Reference 2 by July 10, 2008.

1CAN070807 Page 2 of 2 Reference 3 provided supplemental information regarding the application. In a call on Friday, July 11, 2008, the NRC informed ANO-1 that the supplemental information did not provide the information the staff requested. As a result, ANO-1 is withdrawing the Reference 1 relief request.
In withdrawing the relief request, the commitments listed in References 1 and 3 are being withdrawn as well.
